When you are looking for a security provider:
Make sure you call around to at least 3 or 4 different companies to get a quote on service, installation, and monitoring fees. Some companies might say free installation but with free installation comes a lot of hidden fees and restrictions.
Look for companies that have a good rating and that are recommended from people who already use them as a provider. Talk to your neighbors.
Look to see if there are any complaints against the company and if those complaints were resolved.
What is the cost?
Ask them what the cost would be entire year, quarterly, or monthly and what all comes with that cost.
How much is installation and set-up charges?
How much does the company charge to install the system? Are fees included in the quoted price?
Remember when companies offer free installation you will normally make up for that with longer contracts and higher monthly monitoring cost.
Do you have to sign a contract?
If you are being monitored you can almost guarantee you are going to have to have to sign a contract. Typically if the contract is longer it will be cheaper in the long run because your prices are locked in, this isn’t true with some companies. Make sure you read the your contract.
Ask yourself, is this company in it to protect me and my family or are they in it for the sale. Most local companies are going to be in it for your family, when you go with a big corporate company such as ADT and Vivent you may not get what you really want out of your security system.
